Florida Department of Community Affairs Denies the Proposed Redevelopment Plan of Briny Breezes

Briny BreezesCongratulations to everyone for achieving a real victory in our quest to prevent unreasonable and irresponsible redevelopment of Briny Breezes!

As many of you know, the developer had sought approval of a Plan which would comprise multiple story 900 luxury condo units, 300 timeshare units, a 349 room hotel, retail space, shops and restaurants, and a yacht marina, all situated on 40 acres in the middle of a high hazard zone directly on the coast, in the tiny Town of Briny Breezes. Among other serious problems, the Plan potentially threatened our dunes and sea grass, wildlife habitats, and wildlife, including manatees and sea turtles.

Through our efforts, along with other environmental groups, the State of Florida, through the Department of Community Affairs in Tallahassee, issued a rare and highly critical report of the developer's plans, citing many of the same issues we raised.

The project is now off the table.

We appreciate all of your support!
