Surfrider PBC chapter to partner with Tobacco Free Florida to promote #HoldOntoYourButt campaign

This week, our chapter was invited to attend a partnership meeting with Tobacco Free Florida: a program focused on protecting the people of Florida from the dangers of tobacco. Right in line with that sentiment, is our Hold Onto Your Butt campaign, which focuses on protecting our oceans, beaches and waves from the dangers of cigarette butt pollution. Cigarette butts are the number one form of pollution found on our beaches, and due to being small and light, are very easily blown into our storm drains, waterways, and oceans. So, to help tackle this important issues, and spread our message even further into the community, our chapter will be partnering with Tobacco Free Florida on future beach clean ups around the county! Stay tuned for more info on those dates and locations. We also learned about a disturbing new e-cigarette on the market that is popular with teens, and uses non-recyclable, single-use plastic pods. This device is called JUUL. You can learn more about it here: https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2018/5/1/17286638/juul-vaping-e-cigarette (If you are a parent, we highly recommend you take a look at this article.)If you don't want to wait to help protect our playground, please come out to our beach clean up on November 17th at Lake Worth Beach. We will be there at the normal time, from 8am - 11am. And if you have community service hour sheets, bring them and we will sign them!
